Looking at Leaves

Leaves come in lots of different shapes and sizes. We had go at making careful observational drawings of leaves that we pressed earlier in the year.

Stem Challenge

As part of our topic of plants, we looked at the function of the stem. We used our team building skills to make the best rigid structure but that could still suck up water. Our teams each had 40 straws and 20 minutes on the clock. We tried and failed but tried again. What great resilience!







Non-chronological report writing

We've used Science clips and the DK Find Out website to find information about the functions of different plant parts. Then we used these to write paragraphs about each part.

Roots

We are combining our Literacy and Science this week to start our new topic, "What plants need to grow well". We spent the morning finding out about the functions of roots and used BBC Science clips, the iPads and our observations to write a paragraph about what we found out.
