Talk for Writing- Holly Class

Can you retell our Victorian Christmas Diary using actions and our plan?

Talk for writing- a diary extract

Chestnut class have looked at an extract from the diary of a Victorian child. We then mapped it out with pictures and actions so that we could talk it together.

Can you use the map, remember the actions and talk it by yourself? Try and entertain your family 😃

ISPACE sentences

Today we began our journey to write fantastic complex sentences. We use an anagram to help use remember the different type of openers we can use for a sentence.

We started by using Adverbs because our spelling Unit is -lay words. Next we found out what Prepositions were - words or phrases that place the noun somewhere, eg under, besides, on top of.

Can you think of any more?

Here are some of our super sentences...

X tables

This week we have been looking at multiplying and dividing. It helps if we know our x table facts so we spent some time this morning learning the 3 x table.

Remember you can always practice your tables at home using our Rockstar link on the maths page!

Dividing

Today we looked at dividing. We looked practically at sharing into equal groups and how to show this on a number line.

Fred, Tom, Ethan, Liam and Imogen then showed us what happened if we had remainders.

Year 3 get SMART on line

Today we had an e-safety talk. We learnt that we need to look at 2 websites for reliable information and  to not give out personable information when playing games online. We also found out that You tube had got safer for kids with a website just for them called You tube for Kids.

Finding out about the Victorians.

Today we used what we learned about sub-headings in Literacy last week to help us group questions about the Victorians. Tomorrow we are going to use non-fiction books and the iPads to find information to answer the questions. Great teamwork Holly Class!

Multiplication and division

Today we used Venn diagrams to sort numbers into whether they were multiples of 5 or 2. We also played multiplication and division board games. Keep logging on to your Times Table Rock Star avatar at home!

Fascinating forces investigation

We had great fun investigating which surface made  the best surface to scooter on today.
The cage was great - whole distance was covered but the best was the hall where we ran out of room!  However the best to watch was the grass 😵

Gold Hill Sketches

Natasha and Alex have done some amazing sketches of Gold Hill. Not an easy thing to draw. So proud of both if you! The rest of the class were really impressed too!

Scooter Investigation

Today we tested how far our scooters travelled on different surfaces. Our results are very different from our predictions- lots to talk about tomorrow! It was fun riding our scooters down the corridors though!

STOP PRESS!

We have been reliably informed that Billy is actually a female buzzard, called Roberta!

Science- how forces affect how an object moves (and Billy the buzzard came too!)

We used a basketball to explore how to make an object move, speed up, slow down, stop and change direction. We also found out the affect gravity has on a ball when we throw it in the air. Billy was so interested in what we were doing, he came along to have a look!

Don't forget your scooters and helmets tomorrow for our investigation into how far scooters can travel on different surfaces. I wonder if Billy has a scooter....
