Super Schools

The day has arrived! We had great fun having a photo taken with Rhys Williams, taking part in timed activities and listening to an inspirational talk about 'Having a go' and ' Being determined to succeed '
Here are our action photos!

Please can all sponsor forms and money be sent to the office.

Problem Solving

Our problem solving this week saw us being resourceful - we could choose our own apparatus, draw a number line or do it in our head. Which do you prefer?

The Fantasy begins ... With Lewis Carroll

We started looking at Fatasy stories this week. The book that we are reading from is the classic Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. Our first task was to find facts out about this Victorian author and use sub-heading to organise them.

Challenge achieved!

Well done Olivia for rising to the challenge and investigating cat's eyes.

Well done to all who gave the challenge a go!

Have a look at the solutions below... did you get them all?

Number Bonds to 10

We've been practising our number bonds to 10 and used them to work out number bonds to 100!

The Great Shaftesbury Bake Off!

We made chocolate and cherry butterfly cakes for our cake sale. We raised a whopping £243 (and counting) to go towards our shadow puppet workshop in October. Many thanks to everyone who brought cakes in from home and to the staff, parents and pupils who bought cakes. Next cake sale is a week on Friday.

Up Periscope!

We made a periscope to show how an image can be reflected in a mirror. We used it to look round corners and to peep in the windows!

Do shiny objects give out light?

We put shiny objects in a black box to see if the gave out light. Tell an adult what you found out.

Place Value

We played a game in pairs to see who could make the largest number. Why don't you make some number cards (0-9) and play the game at home?

Light and Reflection

This week we learnt about light and how it travels in straight lines. We used this to make periscopes using light reflection on mirrors. We also explored how different mirror shapes give a different look!

Multiples, Measuring and Money Moments

This week we have looked at counting in multiples of 10's, 50's and 100's. We had great fun estimating and counting lots of small objects using our new skills.

Our weighing skills were used in our baking session.

Next we looked at finding 10 or 100 more or less from any number.

The children were challenged to write about something that they had learnt from the lesson. Here are a few messages.

and then ...  we were lucky enough to see and feel the new £5 note.

What a busy 2nd week

Our focus this week was cooking. In Chestnut class we made biscuits. This gave us a wonderful opportunity for a first try at being newspaper reporters. Here are some pictures of us in the kitchen. The reports are with the editor and will follow soon!
