Victorian Christmas cards

Christmas cards were very popular in Victorian times. We made ours using the silhouettes we made in our light and shadows topic. We decorated them with paper doilies and wrote inside them neatly in our best Victorian copperplate handwriting.

Letters to Santa --- An invitation parents...

Well Mums and Dads, our letters to Santa are finished. Why don't you pop in at the end of a day next week and take a look?

Gold hill paintings

Watch out for these masterpieces coming soon...

More time

Some children had a chance to convert 12 hour clock times to 24 hour clocks today while others had a go at reading time in 5 minute intervals to the next hour!

Great team work everyone😀

Letters to Santa

We have looked at a letter that was found up a chimney in Wiltshire that was written at the end of Queen Victoria's reign. It was to Santa from a girl called Mabel. We have planned our own letters to Santa and cannot wait to write them tomorrow!

Telling time with Analogue clocks

Today, we had a fantastic app on the iPads called Time Quiz. We were challenging ourselves to choose the correct anologue times to half past and quarter past the hour.
It is a fantastic app for your children's tablet Mums and Dads! Find more information here.

Look what was stuck up Mrs Clark's chimney!

Mrs Clark found a letter from a little girl called Mabel stuck up her chimney. The letter is dated 1911. Children used to write a letter to Santa Claus and put it in the fire to send it up the chimney to the North Pole. This one must have escaped the flames and survived for over 100 years. We used it to compare the presents that Mabel wanted to the ones on our Christmas lists. As you can imagine, the lists are very different!

Our Christmas Advent

Christmas is coming and Chestnut class has been busy making some decorations for the classroom. Thanks to Xander we even have Christmas Pokemon.

Sentence openers - ISPACE

We thought back to last week when we began to learn about ISPACE and remembered it was all about how we start a sentence. This week each table brainstormed words for a different type of opener.
Then we tried to write our own sentences.
Half way through the lesson we learnt that openers have a very best friend - the comma - he always goes with openers!

Christmas Fractions

Our challenge today was using our fraction knowledge to solve a Christmas Tree problem.
Once we remembered what the denominator was for we cracked it!

Being writers in the Victorian Era

Using our knowledge of poor Victorians, we wrote our own story plan of a diary extract.
After that we wrote it up using all our writing knowledge. Finally we looked at our stories with fresh eyes and made improvements.

Comparing fractions

We have had fun today working hard. Some of us played a game to compare 2 fractions.

Can you remember how? Which symbol goes < or > goes in between?
Try these ones...
